It’s three hundred and seventy Turns since the end of Thread, but life on Pern remains hard. Ista Weyr, not content to slowly rot and die out with the rest of the Weyrs, has risen up and began a deadly march against the Holds of the Northern coast and its own little island. With the help of the law’gar runners and wher handlers, it took each and every one of the Holds it passed, and in the old, abandoned Weyrs it came across, it installed riders loyal to Ista that answered to its ruler. The Istan Empire was born.

But not all of Ista’s subjects were content with the way the Holders were treated. At the Istan-controlled Igen Weyr, a small group of riders, runners and handlers rebelled against the Empire and, lead by Z’vor of bronze Aranoth, they escaped in secret. They found the empty halls of what had once been High Reaches Weyr and settled there, renaming it Shy’or after Z’vor’s beloved sister, and they built a small Hold within a few miles for renegades from Igen Hold. This Hold they called Black Rock, after the gloomy mountain on which it stands.

But there was no gold in the initial group that left Igen, and so the newly-formed Shy’or could not grow. Conscious of this, Z’vor maintained contact with his spies throughout the Istan Empire and, when he learned that a junior queen at Fort had laid a clutch, and that clutch contained a gold, he decided they had to steal it. But eager to get his Weyr growing quickly, Z’vor sent his law’gar runners with instruction to steal all the eggs. His impatience was punished though; the team were discovered half way through their mission and escaped with only half the clutch.

Now eleven eggs harden on Shy’or’s Sands, but T’rib, the leader of the Istan Empire, has grown alert. The Weyr lives in constant fear that he, angered by the theft, will send over his armies to crush them, and compared to the might of T’rib’s forces, Shy’or would not stand a chance.

Shy’or Weyr is a new roleplay based on Anne McCaffrey’s series, Dragon Riders of Pern. We are a new and energetic Weyr, with a unique plot and story-line, and a new take on an established genre. For players looking for something a bit different, we have an entirely original Impressable species and firelizards with an unusual sort of ranking system, but we also have things to offer a player looking for a more traditional Pern roleplay; at the moment we have only the five original dragon colours (plus white), and women ride gold and green only. However in the future we will be bringing in some new (and explainable IC) ranks for dragons and whers. We’re also not a Weyr that insists high-ranking characters be controlled only by the staff; we want to encourage all members to get involved in Shy’or’s intricate world, in every way they can.
