Jared returned to his room to find Soleil chittering and humming around a small package on his bed. Bending down to see what was the matter he absentmindedly stroked the gold as he investigated the parcel.
A tiny, nearly iridescent pearly pink egg was quivering under his gaze. He looked around sharply, was this his? Another fire lizard!
How lucky could he be??
Soleil didn't seem so pleased. She nipped at his fingers when he produced some spare meat for the almost-hatchling. Sitting on his bed next to the egg he scratched Soleil's chin, "Don't worry little girl, you're not forgotten! You forget, no matter what hatches, you'll still be older and in charge. You're a queen my beauty!" As he said that he dearly hoped this wasn''t another gold! But no, the egg was too small, thankfully.
Soleil seemed mollified for now.
She settled herself on his shoulder, watching the egg shake. As the first cracks appeared her humming grew louder. They both watched as a tiny tail broke through the shell, quite gently for a flit. The shell collapsed around a a little green hatchling, whose eyes whirled with hunger. Jared felt that hunger and responded as quickly as he could.
Her hide was dark, but her wings were lighter, tapering neatly.
She was very pretty.
Soleil chirped indignantly.
"She's pretty for a green," he said and she huffed.
Running his hand along the new little girl he smiled and named her. "DoeEyes," he said, "Doe for short perhaps?" Soleil nuzzled his neck, requesting food as Doe licked her paws, staring up at Jared. Two females. Two girls. Two bossy, vain, egotistical girls to deal with! Oh Faranth...
This was going to be fun.
